UNIC Primary Care Centre Opens

With the aim of serving the primary health care needs of the University of Nicosia community and the local population, the Medical School announces the opening of the first University Primary Care Centre in the country under the newly introduced Cyprus National Health Care System (GESY).

The Centre is now registering patients via the GESY website at: www.gesy.org.cy

The Centre is currently staffed by the following doctors. The Director is Evagoras Nicolaides, Professor of Postgraduate Medicine at the University of Nicosia Medical School. Professor Nicolaides formerly served as Director of the Cardiology Department at Nicosia General Hospital. Dr Christos Michael is a General Practitioner in London in the UK’s NHS system.  He will move to Cyprus and will start examining patients in August.  Five more General Practitioners and Paediatricians will soon be added in order to serve the University and the local population.  It is expected that over 14,000 people will register with the Centre.

The Centre will be a model primary care centre providing high quality services based on the UK system of a comprehensive, holistic and evidence-based approach to primary care practice. The primary care team will be multidisciplinary and will include nurses, a pharmacist, an administrator and a laboratory assistant.  The Centre will also serve as a training ground for UNIC’s Medical programmes.

The Centre is temporarily housed at the Engomi Business Centre, and from September 2019 its permanent location will be at the UNIC Research and Technology Building.

You may visit the GESY website and register with the Centre’s doctors: www.gesy.org.cy
