Academic Admission

The minimum admission requirement to an undergraduate programme of study is a recognized High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) or equivalent internationally recognized qualification(s). Students with a lower HSLC grade than 7.5/10 or 15/20 or equivalent depending on the grading system of the country issuing the HSLC are provided with extra academic guidance and monitoring during the first year of their studies.

English Language Proficiency

The list below provides the minimum English Language Requirements (ELR) for enrollment to the programme of study. Students who do not possess any of the qualifications or stipulated grades listed below and hold IELTS with 4.5 and above, are required to take UNIC’s NEPTON English Placement Test (with no charge) and will receive English Language support classes.

Course assessment usually comprises of a comprehensive final exam and continuous assessment. Continuous assessment can include amongst others, mid-terms, projects and class participation.

Letter grades are calculated based on the weight of the final exam and the continuous assessment and the actual numerical marks obtained in these two assessment components. Based on the course grades the student’s semester grade point average (GPA) and cumulative point average (CPA) are calculated.

The student must complete 240 ECTS and all programme requirements.

A minimum cumulative grade point average (CPA) of 2.0 is required. Thus, although a ‘D-‘ is a PASS grade, in order to achieve a CPA of 2.0 an average grade of ‘C’ is required.

On completion of this programme, the student will be able to:

• Advanced Theoretical Knowledge and Understanding (EQF Knowledge): Demonstrate comprehensive theoretical knowledge and critical understanding of political science, international relations, governance structures, and foundational concepts of transformative technologies in the context of the 5th Industrial Revolution, enabling systematic and informed analyses.

• Complex Problem Analysis and Integration (EQF Skills): Apply analytical techniques and methodological rigour to critically assess complex social, political, and technological issues, constructing coherent arguments grounded in interdisciplinary perspectives and relevant empirical evidence.

• Contextual Understanding and Ethical Awareness (EQF Competence): Critically evaluate and synthesise ethical dilemmas and societal impacts arising from rapid technological developments, demonstrating responsibility and accountability in professional and social contexts related to politics and governance.

• Effective Communication and Digital Interaction (EQF Skills): Employ advanced communication strategies and digital technologies to clearly convey complex political, governance, and technological concepts to diverse audiences through professional written, oral, and multimedia forms of expression.

• Policy and Governance Evaluation Competence (EQF Competence): Independently evaluate and critique governance frameworks, public policies, institutional effectiveness and regulatory mechanisms at national, regional, and international levels, showcasing an informed capacity to propose context-sensitive solutions.

• Innovative Policy Solutions and Practical Application (EQF Skills): Develop innovative policy approaches by integrating technological developments and political/governance theories, demonstrating cognitive and practical skills transferable to professional scenarios and real-world policy environments.

• Research Methods and Knowledge Integration (EQF Knowledge and Skill): Effectively design, implement, and evaluate research projects employing qualitative, quantitative and mixed methods relevant to political sciences, governance studies, international relations, and transformative technology fields.

• Autonomy and Personal Responsibility (EQF Competence): Exhibit autonomy and initiative in professional tasks and group settings, managing responsibilities and meeting objectives within deadlines and professional ethics criteria, adapting proactively to changing technological and socio-political conditions.

• Collaborative Skills and Interdisciplinary Teamwork (EQF Competence): Cooperate effectively within diverse professional groups and interdisciplinary teams, constructively contributing insights from political, governance, and technological discourses to facilitate successful project outcomes and policy formulations.

• Continuing Professional Development and Career Readiness (EQF Competence): Demonstrate readiness to pursue continual professional development and reflective practice, establishing the groundwork for ongoing learning, adaptability, and successful integration into relevant professional fields, including diplomacy, policy-making, NGOs, international organizations, technology-focused enterprises, security sectors, and media.
