The UNIC Sports Awards Ceremony is a cornerstone event that honours the exceptional performances of our athletes in university sports competitions. Each year, this ceremony brings together the UNIC community to recognise and celebrate the dedication, hard work, and success of our student-athletes.
2025-2026 Sports Awards Highlights
The 2025–2026 Sports Awards Ceremony marked the eleventh consecutive year of celebrating the achievements of the University of Nicosia’s student-athletes. Held on 11 June 2026, the event brought together the University’s academic and administrative leadership, distinguished representatives of the Cypriot sports community, and athletes’ families to honour excellence in university sports.
The ceremony featured inspirational speeches highlighting the importance of balancing academic studies with athletic commitments. Olympian and Distinguished Professor Stavros Tziortzis delivered the keynote address, sharing his experiences of dedication, perseverance, and success throughout his sporting career. In recognition of his outstanding contribution to sport and education, he received an honorary award from Professor Nicos Kartakoullis, President of the University of Nicosia Council.
Dr Emilios Solomou, Vice President of the Cyprus University Sports Federation and Honorary Director of the UNESCO Chair of the University of Nicosia, Professor Nicos Kartakoullis, and Paschalina Magniti, representing the Cyprus Sports Organisation, highlighted the value of university sports and the importance of supporting student-athletes in pursuing dual careers.
The University of Nicosia also celebrated the achievements of its athletes who represented Cyprus internationally. Congratulations were extended to Styliana Ioannidou (4th place, high jump), Petros Christodoulides (5th place, judo), Kalia Antoniou (6th place, swimming), and Kyriakos Markides (artistic gymnastics) for their participation in the World University Games in Germany, as well as to Stefani Nikolaou, Student Ambassador of the International University Sports Federation (FISU), for her contribution to university sport.
All University of Nicosia athletes who participated in university sports competitions throughout the 2025–2026 season were honoured for their dedication, commitment, and achievements.
