Section 01: IMPRINTS_ an ethnographic approach of the effects of displacement

The Department of Architecture of the University of Nicosia, cordially invites you to the Fall 2018 Catalyst Student Presentations on Friday, 9 November 2018 at 18:30, at the Architecture Research Centre [ARC], Main Amphitheatre.

Catalysts are elective, intensive one-week courses that change every semester depending on the interests of faculty and visiting specialists. With the catalyst in place, faculty are able to respond to newly developing research or design practices offering motivating and exciting opportunities to students and participants.

The catalyst running for this semester (Fall 2018) is the following: Section 01: IMPRINTS_ an ethnographic approach of the effects of displacement.

In order to propose any form of architectural intervention, one has to understand the existing conditions that affect and regulate decision-making. Most of the times, contextual site readings of the built environment, and analysis of users and local cultures, are among the first steps taken before moving to the design of any specific scheme. Most of the times, these studies are place specific. How can we research more generic patterns in order to understand local cultures and behaviour of users in modern Cypriot Society?
