Online Info Session – Here and Now: Arts Learning in Times of Social Distancing

This webinar will take the form of a discussion about art education in times of a pandemic, between Fine Art lecturers Evi Tselika, Constantinos Taliotis and Haris Pelapaissiotis.

The content and structure of the BA in Fine Art will be discussed, together with the ethos of our pedagogical approach. Recent digital shifts that have taken place in art education because of social distancing measures will be addressed. The versatility with which we responded to these sudden changes will be referred to in relation to our students’ work from this semester, demonstrating how our faculty continued offering high quality art education even within present day conditions of arts learning in isolation.

The three lecturers will discuss how in times of social distancing we construct an arts learning community, what form it takes, what are the limits imposed on studio practice and what can be gained from online learning, pros and cons, what are the possible solutions. Further issues to be discussed will include the question of how online teaching alters the art-making process and more crucially the question of art and experience from the perspectives of producer (artist) and viewer.

Questions about the content, the pedagogical approach and career prospects can be answered after the discussion.
