University of Nicosia signs MOU with Ri.Med Foundation

The Department of Life and Health Sciences will collaborate with the prestigious Ri.Med Foundation in the area of Biomedical Sciences

An agreement was signed last week between the Department of Life and Health Sciences of the University of Nicosia and the Ri.Med Foundation in Italy, committing both parties to closer collaboration in the area of biomedical research.

The Ri.Med Foundation was founded (and is funded) by the Italian Government, the District of Sicily and the Medical School of the University of Pittsburg, USA, in pursuit of developing a center of excellence in the fields of Biotechnology and Biomedical Research.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two parties includes, among others, technology transfer, faculty, staff and student exchange, educational and outreach activities, as well as research collaboration.

The MoU was signed by Dr Kyriacos Felekkis, Head of the Department of Life and Health Sciences of the University of Nicosia, and by Dr Alessandro Patova, Ri.Med’s CEO.

Commenting on the development, Dr Felekkis mentioned that he is delighted with the present agreement, underscoring that the collaboration will aid in promoting the Department, the University, and Cyprus more generally as an important player in the field of Biomedical Research at the international level. “UNIC’s invitation to team up with Ri.MED is a great honor for us and demonstrates that the Department’s internationalization efforts are producing tangible results”, he added. On his part, Dr Patova likewise expressed his enthusiasm for the agreement and stated that the results of this collaboration will soon be evident.

Due to the current travel restrictions, the agreement was signed online but both scientists expressed their conviction that they will soon meet in Palermo and Nicosia, respectively.
