Migrant Information Centers (miHUB) project to be completed after 18 months of operation

The University of Nicosia, in collaboration with the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT) and CARDET implement the Project “Migrant Information Center (MIC)” (CY/2020/AMIF/S02.N02.1.3/4), Immigrant Service Centers (miHUB). The Project is co-funded by the Asylum, Immigration and Integration Fund and the Republic of Cyprus and is implemented for the period 15 December 2020 – 14 June 2022.

The implementation of the Migrant Information Centers (miHUB) project will be completed after 18 months of operation, in June 2022 and having successfully completed five years of presence in Cyprus. For the current period, more than 7000 people have been served across Cyprus, while more than 280 vulnerable people have been accommodated in the temporary accommodation facility. In the framework of the Project, counselling and psychological support services, professional guidance, facilitation in filling in applications and access to other services e.g. hospitals, implementation of Greek and English language courses, assistance in finding accommodation and employment and participation of the population served in social and recreational activities were provided. Through the services provided, the beneficiaries were able to solve problems and difficulties in order to integrate more easily and effectively into local communities. Harmonious cooperation was achieved with a number of institutions in the field of asylum and migration, such as local authorities, public services and voluntary organisations. Synergies and partnerships were created with private bodies and volunteers.

The need for social cohesion and solidarity was the trigger for the publication of an electronic magazine, which aimed to give a voice to the population served by the MIC Project with the local community, thus facilitating intercultural communication and mutual understanding between peoples.
