Collaborators | Partners in Protecting the Cyprus Eagle
The Bonelli’s Eagle nests, in small numbers, in the mountainous regions of Cyprus. It is one of the rarest and most significant birds of Cyprus avifauna.
Unfamiliar to many, it lives and reproduces far from human eyes in remote and secluded regions. It thus requires monitoring and protection, being a species that was not long ago in danger of disappearing from the island.
It is noteworthy that the Bonelli’s Eagle is an Annex I species of the EU Bird’s Directive, and thus enjoys a strict protection status.
Having adopted the Eagle as our official mascot, the University is working alongside various organisations that play a role in the protection of this unique Cyprus eagle, to ensure that the Bonelli’s Eagle will be around for future generations to enjoy.
