Library Collections
The UNIC Library and Information Centre, including the UNIC Athens Library, develops its collections primarily on the basis of university and student needs, in consultation with faculty and in alignment with course syllabi. Each collection is regularly reviewed to ensure the relevance and appropriateness of its content. Access to resources across all relevant areas of study is provided through the next-generation Alma platform, which offers unified management of print, electronic, and digital materials, as well as through the Primo discovery service, enabling fast and efficient resource discovery both on and off campus.
Electronic Database
Electronic databases number over 110 titles, covering every relevant field of study, while providing access to more than 720,000 electronic books and 90,000 full-text electronic journals. The library also supports the RefWorks bibliographic reference management program. Access to electronic resources is facilitated through the OpenAthens authentication system, offering uninterrupted 24/7 connection throughout the year via the library website. Additionally, the UNIC community has access to the University Repository (UNIC Repository) containing Masters and Doctoral theses, as well as links to University research activities.
720,000 e-books
90,000 e-journals
Partnerships with Libraries Worldwide
UNIC Library and Information Centre facilitates print material exchange between all branch libraries and offers an interlibrary loan service for materials not available in its collections. Requests are fulfilled through partnerships with libraries worldwide. The library is a member of the Cyprus Library Consortium (CLC), where it is a founding member, alongside other Cypriot public and private universities. The CLC secures access to electronic materials (journals, books, and bibliographic databases) through agreements with publishers and suppliers. Additionally, it negotiates Transformative Agreements for publishing in open or hybrid journals, often at reduced or zero cost.
Trainings & Support
The library actively participates in professional trainings and is a member of international academic library associations such as LIBER, EBLIDA, and IFLA, aiming for continuous improvement of resources and services offered.
During library operating hours, staff provide assistance with material searches, technical support, and training to address any difficulties in using resources. For general 24-hour support, an FAQ section is available on the library website, along with detailed guides.
UNIC Athens Library organises regular training sessions (online, in-person, and hybrid), providing practical skills to students. It also implements workshops and user meetings for better service. Information Literacy is an integral part of services, helping students develop critical thinking applicable to both academic and professional/personal development. Furthermore, the library supports faculty and researchers by maintaining profiles in Scopus and ORCID, providing research support, and contributing to research profile development in the University of Nicosia Research Portal.
All resources, guides, and information (including regulations, policies, and operating hours) are available on the library website.

Library and Study Spaces
UNIC Athens includes a fully equipped library and specially designed study areas, providing students with access to academic resources, research materials, and quiet learning environments. These spaces have been designed to support both independent study and collaborative learning, ensuring that students have the appropriate infrastructure for their academic development.
European Documentation Centre (EDC)
Since 2012, UNIC Library & Information Centre has hosted the European Documentation Centre (EDC), which is accessible to all members of the UNIC Athens community. As part of the European Commission’s initiative (Europe Direct), the EDC is mandated to promote and develop teaching and research about Europe. In this context, it provides academic and public information, guidance, and access to EU resources (official publications, documents, and electronic databases), as well as extensive information and tools from the European Commission, and related European institutions. Additionally, the EDC supports interlibrary loan with the European Central Library for access to specialised materials.
The EDC actively disseminates information through events, educational and interactive activities (e.g. Citizens’ Dialogues with key speakers from the European Commission, World Cafés), while maintaining a website and social media accounts. Furthermore, it collaborates with various University Departments, European institutions, and other external organisations. In this context, it supports students in using European Commission platforms (such as EURES and EPSO) for seeking internships and employment in the EU and EU institutions. It also provides training in the use of European resources and tools, as well as guidance on administrative and legal matters related to their field of study and the possibility of working in the EU. In this way, the university ensures that students have access to EU materials while expanding their professional prospects.
