Mission Statement for the AI Learning Centre (AI-LC)
(Previously known as the Technology Enhanced Learning Centre (TELC))
At the AI Learning Centre, our mission is to position the University of Nicosia at the forefront of artificial intelligence–enabled and technology-enhanced teaching, learning, and research. Central to this mission is UNIC’s bespoke AI platform, Evolve/PowerFlow, which empowers faculty, staff, and students with advanced AI capabilities, new modes of accessibility, and opportunities for innovative pedagogy. At the same time, the Centre continues to advance Technology Enhanced Learning through platforms such as Blackboard and Engageli, providing robust support for digital learning environments, learning design, and inclusive access to education.
We also lead the training of all faculty, staff, and students across all UNIC campuses in the effective and responsible use of AI and technology-enhanced learning tools, while driving the development and deployment of AI agents that streamline learning, research, compliance, and project support. In doing so, the Centre remains at the cutting edge of generative AI and agentic platform research, ensuring that UNIC continues to innovate on the global stage.
We aim to foster an educational environment that is forward-thinking, equitable, and anchored in effective learning design, responsible AI use, and the sustainable integration of emerging technologies.
Our Objectives
- AI-Driven Digital Competencies Equip learners, staff, and faculty with advanced AI tools through Evolve/PowerFlow and TEL platforms (e.g., Blackboard, Engageli), fostering lifelong digital literacies and a culture of innovation.
- University-Wide Training Provide consistent training for all faculty, staff, and students across UNIC campuses in AI applications, TEL platforms, and digital learning practices.
- Next-Generation Learning Environments Design and implement digital spaces where AI, Evolve initiatives, and TEL platforms integrate seamlessly to enable creativity, collaboration, accessibility, and pedagogical innovation.
- Data-Informed Education Harness AI-powered analytics and dashboards (e.g., Power BI, AWS QuickSight) for actionable insights, continuous quality assurance, and improved learner engagement.
- AI Agent Development Develop, train, and deploy AI agents within Evolve/PowerFlow to support teaching, learning design, research, compliance, and student services with scalable impact.
- Technology-Enhanced Learning Services Provide end-to-end support for TEL platforms, product evaluations, procurement, vendor relations, and training, ensuring resilience in online and blended education.
- Compliance & Accessibility Lead the University in meeting evolving regulatory standards—including the EU AI Act and Accessibility Act—embedding accessibility across all AI and TEL initiatives.
- Research & Innovation Strengthen the University’s research profile through AI-powered course enhancements, custom agent development, funded projects, PhD supervision, and leadership in international publishing.
- Organisational Impact Deliver measurable value through vendor negotiations, cost-saving initiatives, and effective management of the AI-LC team and portal, aligning all AI and TEL efforts with UNIC’s strategic goals.
Through these initiatives, the AI Learning Centre positions the University of Nicosia at the forefront of AI and technology-enhanced learning—driving innovation in teaching and research, advancing practical AI applications, ensuring compliance, and shaping a globally leading, resilient educational ecosystem.
