Department’s Mission Statement

The Department of Theology is dedicated to the development and promotion of theological studies in Cyprus, Greece, and ecumenical Orthodoxy. The Department faculty members are established scholars in their respective fields who, through research and teaching, seek to establish a hub of interdisciplinary inquiry into religious ideas. Their primary sources are the Bible, the teachings and the writings of the Fathers of the Church and the broader Orthodox Christian tradition. The Department engages its students in the rigorous academic study of theology, participates in all inter-Orthodox, inter-Christian and interfaith dialogues and regularly organises scientific workshops and international conferences. The purpose of its innovative academic programmes is to train postgraduate MA and doctoral students advancing scientific research. Through its strong affiliations and its Learning Centres, the Department is actively contributing to the theological communities and the cultural activities of the Holy Metropolises; moreover, many of its faculty are active members of the Church liturgical practice in Cyprus and Greece.

More specifically, the Department of Theology aims:

  • To provide high-quality academic programmes for the study of Theology.
  • To participate and engage in rigorous research, scholarship, and teaching.
  • To attract talented postgraduate students, equip them for professional careers and prepare knowledgeable and critically engaged citizens.
  • To foster an environment of intellectual freedom, equity, and inclusion for all its faculty, staff, and students.
  • To play an important role supporting the School’s mission to promote sustainability, diversity and inclusion.
