MSc in Blockchain and Digital Currency (DL programme) – Exam Procedures

  1. The Distance Learning (DL) MSc in Blockchain and Digital Currency is an online degree and therefore online proctoring services are utilized to monitor and ensure the integrity of the final examination. The use of online proctoring services has been approved by the School of Business, the University’s Senate as well as the Cyprus Agency of Quality Assurance and Accreditation in Higher Education (CYQAA).
  2. Online proctoring deters misbehaviour by authenticating all students to the Proctorio platform. A remote invigilator will observe your completion of the exam using specialized software and recordings will be made and held for a limited period of time to ensure academic integrity is maintained.
  3. There was no incident reported of any proctor attempting to misuse personal information or use any PII to identify a particular person.

In general, the software monitors:

  • Video feed from student’s webcam
  • Student’s eye movements
  • Audio levels in the student’s environment
  • Hardware devices connected to the student’s computer
  • The names of any applications or processes running on the student’s computer
  • Whatever is visible on the screen during testing
  • Keystrokes
  • The identity of the student taking the exam

The software does not monitor:

  • Web browsing history
  • Content of personal files on the student’s computer
  1. All exams are taking place at the end of semester (often between Friday and Sunday). Exam dates are announced in Moodle at courses’ news forums at the beginning of each course.If, for any reason a student is not able to complete the exam within the given dates must contact the University via [email protected]
  1. University’s policy for students who miss the first exam round for other reasons except serious illness (a medical report must be provided), is that they automatically receive a 20% penalty on their final exam grade.
  2. Where it is impossible for a student to take the exam over a given weekend, then he will be given an ‘Incomplete’ for the course, and offered a second exam period to sit the exam. This second exam period will be one week after the original exam period.
  3. Students taking an ‘Incomplete’ will automatically receive a 20% penalty on their final exam grade, unless the circumstances were exceptional such as due to serious illness.
  4. The faculty members and the administration may ask for verifiable evidence and reserve the right to accept or reject any reason as a valid excuse”.
  5. The University has an agreement with Proctorio and thus, this e-proctoring service is used to run the exams.
  6. Attached is the “Proctorio Student Guide” – students have to acknowledge that they understand the terms and conditions that relate with online proctoring.
  7. The University of Nicosia has an institutionally endorsed agreement that protects the privacy of the recordings, and other personal information.
