Gut microbes and brain cancer: new insights from UNIC researchers
The authors summarise current evidence on the gut–brain axis, describing how intestinal microorganisms and their metabolites affect immune regulation, inflammatory pathways, and the tumour microenvironment in glioblastoma. They discuss how changes in gut microbiota composition (dysbiosis) may contribute to the disease’s highly immunosuppressive environment and resistance to treatment.

On Friday, 13 February 2026, UNIC medical students at Paphos General Hospital (PGH) organised the third annual, multi-thematic clinical conference, bringing together senior students for a day of knowledge sharing and hands-on skill development.

The Medical School's Mobile Clinic teamed up with UNIC’s Department of Student Affairs and the AIDS Solidarity Movement (Cy Checkpoint), to provide free, anonymous, and rapid HIV testing to the UNIC community on the main campus.

Όπως χαρακτηριστικά ανέφερε στην αρχή της παρέμβασής του στη διοργάνωση ο Καθηγητής Φελάς, «Η ενίσχυση της μακροχρόνιας φροντίδας και της ενεργού γήρανσης είναι κρίσιμη ως μέσο για την αντιμετώπιση των προκλήσεων που συνεπάγεται η δημογραφική γήρανση, η φροντίδα των ανθρώπων που μεγαλώνουν κατά τέτοιο τρόπο ώστε να παραμένουν δραστήριοι στη διάρκεια ολόκληρης της ζωής τους και να συνεχίσουν να συνεισφέρουν στην κοινωνία».
University of Nicosia Coordinates Erasmus+ “Mental Health Matters” Kick-Off Meeting in Chișinău
