Faculty and students engage communities through healthcare initiatives

UNIC Health organised numerous seminars, conferences, and educational initiatives throughout the year to support local and regional communities.

With the support of the communities of Dhekelia (Xylofagou, Ormidia, Xylotymbou), the School organised a series of lectures, during the winter and spring months of 2025, on health issues targeted at the local population:

  •  ‘Seasonal Infections: Symptoms and ways to protect ourselves and others’ by Petros Karagiannis, Professor of Microbiology/Molecular Virology, was held on 29 January in Xylotymbou
  • ‘Antibiotics in our lives: How do they work and when do we need them?’ by Zoi Dorothea Pana, Professor of Paediatric Epidemiology, was held on 28 February in Xylofagou
  • ‘Understanding Dementia: Problems, Care, and Acceptance’ by Loizos G. Loizou, Clinical Professor of Pediatrics, Paediatric Oncology/Haematology/Immunology, was held on 19 March in Ormidia

On 5 April, the Medical School organised its 3rd Primary Care Conference for all personal doctors in Cyprus. Over 90 personal doctors attended the conference (Read more).

On 29 May, the School of Veterinary Medicine and UNIPORK Cyprus Ltd held a seminar on colostrum and suckling piglets (Read more).

From 9 to 11 May, the Medical School hosted a training course as part of the IDEALiTER Erasmus+ project. The programme brought together experts from across Europe to advance education in infectious diseases (Read more).

Over the weekend of 4-5 October, the Medical School was one of the organisers of the EU’s first Simulation & Practical Onsite Training in Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) in Athens (Read more).

In late October, the Medical School carried out a project in collaboration with GC School of Careers in Nicosia to raise awareness among adolescents about key public health topics (Read more).

Finally, on 17 November, two medical students delivered a culturally sensitive, age-appropriate sexual health educational workshop in Arabic for refugee children at a Nicosia shelter (Read more).
