Medical School hosts European infectious disease training programme
The University of Nicosia Medical School hosted a training course as part of the IDEALiTER Erasmus+ project from 9 to 11 May. The programme brought together experts from across Europe to advance education in infectious diseases.
Specialists from Belgium, France, Portugal, Greece, and Cyprus contributed to the training, including Professors Pierre Van Damme, Erika Vlieghe, Caroline Charlier, Vana Papaevangelou, Zoi Dorothea Pana, and Drs Paula Ribeiro and John Kopsidas.
The course covered antimicrobial and antifungal resistance, maternal and neonatal infections, vaccination strategies, outbreak investigations, and public health preparedness. Sessions also addressed communication during health crises and the ‘One Health’ approach.
Students participated in simulation sessions at the Medical School’s Clinical Skills Lab, where they practised infection prevention techniques, including hand hygiene, PPE protocols, and outbreak response.
