Medical students win national startup competition

We are pleased to share that a team of three medical students of Class of 2028 – Aikaterini Katramadou, Maria Tzifa and Dimitris Vlachos – were the winners of Junior Achievement’s StartUp 2025 Programme and successfully represented Cyprus at the Gen-E 2025 European Entrepreneurship Festival in Athens this past July.

The JA StartUp Programme is an innovative educational programme implemented simultaneously in 500 universities across Europe with the participation of 20,000 students annually.

The programme gives university students (18 to 30 years old) the opportunity to experience running their own company, providing them with insight into how their talents could be used to set up a business.

This year, Junior Achievement Cyprus implemented the programme with students from seven universities, supported by 11 academics and 20 mentors. During the event, the six finalist student companies had the opportunity to present their innovative business ideas to a panel of judges.

Called MedschoolPal, the winning team’s application revolutionises mental health support for medical students through AI-based solutions. Specifically, it offers personalised mental health guidance, smart scheduling, and smartwatch integration to detect stress and provide immediate real-time interventions. With gamified features that keep users engaged, MedschoolPal helps students remain balanced, productive and resilient in their demanding course.

The University of Nicosia is proud to see its students combining their medical knowledge with business acumen to create solutions that can make a meaningful difference in their peers lives.
