The Relationship Between Career Development and Mental Health
Open Talk with Dr. Seth C. W. Hayden
The Department of Student Affairs, in collaboration with the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, invites you to an Open Talk by Dr. Seth C. W. Hayden, Professor of Counseling and Coordinator of the Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program at Wake Forest University in the United States, entitled “The Relationship Between Career Development and Mental Health.”
The Open Talk will take place on Wednesday, 21 October 2026, from 17:00 to 18:30, at UNIC Athens, Amphitheatre Georgios Papanikolaou.
There is substantial evidence of a connection between career development and mental health. This talk will explore the complexity of career development and relevant career and mental health factors that impact this process. Participants will be introduced to current evidence concerning the relationship between career development and mental health, as well as evidence-based interventions designed to support positive career development.
The talk will address:
- The complexity of career development and the factors that influence the process.
- Evidence concerning the connection between career development and mental health.
- Evidence-based interventions designed to enhance positive career development.
- Implications for professionals and researchers working across the fields of career development and mental health.
The Open Talk is particularly relevant to career practitioners, mental health professionals, career and mental health researchers, psychologists, and psychology students. It will provide valuable insights for professionals, researchers, and students interested in the intersection of career development and mental health, as well as in evidence-based interventions that support positive career development.
The lecture will be delivered in English. No interpretation will be provided.

Seth Hayden Ph.D.

Wake Forest University
Dr. Seth C. W. Hayden is a professor of counseling and coordinator of the clinical mental health counseling program at Wake Forest University in the United States. Dr. Hayden’s research focuses on the connection between career development and mental health, as well as the career and personal development needs of military service members, veterans, and their families. He is the author of Integrating Career Development and Mental Health Counseling and co-editor of Cognitive Information Processing: Career Theory, Research, and Practice. He is also the editor of The Career Development Quarterly, the flagship journal of the National Career Development Association. He is a licensed clinical mental health counselor in North Carolina. He is a past-president of the Military and Government Counseling Association and the National Career Development Association, divisions of the American Counseling Association.
