One Health

UNIC Health embraces the One Health concept, recognizing that human health is closely connected to the health of animals and the environment. In today’s interconnected world, health threats can spread rapidly across borders, making global cooperation essential. International organizations like the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and the World Health Organization (WHO) are working together to integrate One Health principles to better prevent, predict, detect, and respond to global health challenges.

Medical Research

The research at the Medical School focuses in areas of brain health and disease, cancer biology and oncology, regenerative medicine and genetics, infectious diseases, medical education, clinical communication and health psychology, medical physics and emerging technologies.

Veterinary Research

The School of Veterinary Medicine espouses the holistic concept of One Health which emphasizes the relationship between the health of humans and animals within a healthy, sustainable environment and promotes the conduct of clinical, epidemiological, basic science and social science research.

Life and Health Research

School of Life and Health Sciences’ areas of interest include among others personalised medicine through the use of artificial intelligence and virtual reality tools, isolation and synthesis of bioactive molecules from natural products, biomarkers discovery, design of novel drug delivery systems and advanced nutritional and exercise regimes for chronic diseases.

UNIC Medical Centre

The University Medical Centre operates under the Cyprus General Healthcare System (GHS) and serves the primary health care needs of the University of Nicosia community and the population at large. The Centre is involved in research work covering the fields of family medicine and public health, while also serving as a training ground for the University of Nicosia medical students.

Partner Hospitals

Students of the Medical School benefit from a comprehensive programme of clinical training. The training is based in Cyprus and involves the full spectrum of public and private clinical facilities.

Veterinary Training Partnership

The partnership between the University of Nicosia School of Veterinary Medicine and PLAKENTIA Group of Veterinary Clinicsexpands the clinical training and clinical research opportunities of the School, beyond Cyprus.

Social responsibility is at the core of the Medical School’s mission, demonstrated by its Mobile Clinic, which offers diagnostic services nationwide, including to remote areas, senior citizens, refugees, and asylum seekers. Students also engage in public health campaigns and community activities, such as fundraising, blood donations, and environmental awareness events, organized by Student Services and student clubs.
