UNIC Health Facilities

UNIC Health offers state-of-the-art facilities, equipped with the latest technology to enrich the educational experience. With an investment of over €100 million in campus infrastructure in recent years, these contemporary spaces support advanced learning and innovation across all health disciplines.

ANATOMY LABORATORY

MEDICAL SCHOOL

Our state-of-the-art anatomy lab, one of the finest in the region, serves as a testing center for the Royal College of Surgeons of England. Using human cadavers, realistic models, and multimedia resources, the lab offers an immersive learning experience. Small-group sessions led by skilled anatomy demonstrators help students connect anatomical structures with clinical topics, fostering a lasting understanding of anatomy. The adjacent histology lab further supports this hands-on, interactive approach.

CLINICAL SKILLS LABORATORY

MEDICAL SCHOOL

The 18-cubicle Clinical Skills laboratory is a dynamic learning space where students work in small groups with realistic models, manikins, and both simulated and actual patients. This lab is crucial for building bedside communication skills and clinical knowledge, essential for tomorrow’s doctors. Through a structured teaching approach, students progressively develop their skills, preparing them for patient interactions during clinical placements.

UNIC HEALTH LIBRARY

The Health Library’s stylish design, lighting, and furniture create an inspiring space for students. As part of UNIC’s Library Information Gateway, it houses titles in basic sciences, clinical, and veterinary medicine, accessible on and off campus. The library provides electronic access to extensive medical databases, e-books, and journals, supporting the academic and research needs of students and faculty across all programs.

ZEBRA FISH LABORATORY

The Zebrafish Laboratory at UNIC Health serves as a cutting-edge centre for research and education, focusing on zebrafish (Danio rerio), noted for their striped pattern. Housing up to 1,000 fish in 65 tanks, the laboratory employs zebrafish due to their genetic and physiological parallels to humans, making them an ideal model for studying human development and disease. The laboratory equally aims to offer educational opportunities through laboratory courses and research projects for students.

EQUINE CLINIC

SCHOOL OF VETERINARY MEDICINE

Our Equine Clinic operates as a referral centre for horses needing specialised medical attention and routine surgical procedures. The clinic delivers a range of services, including internal medicine, diagnostic imaging, reproductive care, and various surgical interventions. For our students, the clinic functions as a vital practical learning environment, offering direct and hands-on practical experience in equine healthcare. This exposure is crucial in developing their competencies and understanding in veterinary medicine.

HISTOPATHOLOGY LABORATORY

MEDICAL SCHOOL & SCHOOL OF VETERINARY MEDICINE

The Histopathology lab provides foundational training for students to distinguish healthy from diseased tissues. Using microscopes and slide preparations, students explore a large collection of tissue samples to familiarize themselves with essential histological structures for diagnosis. Practical sessions, guided by qualified histopathologists and supported by projected microscope images and clinical tutorials, enhance the learning experience with traditional techniques for examining cells, tissues, and investigating diseases.

AFFILIATE VETERINARY PARTNERS

SCHOOL OF VETERINARY MEDICINE

The School of Veterinary Medicine has formed partnerships with numerous veterinary enterprises, clinics, and farms. These collaborations significantly enhance the educational journey of our students, offering them valuable exposure to practical aspects of veterinary practices. This engagement with real-world settings serves to deepen their learning experience, effectively bridging academic knowledge with hands-on practice, which is part of the students’ clinical extramural studies.

BIOCHEMISTRY LABORATORIES

SCHOOL OF VETERINARY MEDICINE

Our Biochemistry Laboratories are a fundamental component of the Veterinary programme, furnished with the latest technology and instruments. Students gain practical experience with highperformance liquid chromatographs (HPLCs), spectrophotometers, PCR machines, digital microscopes, and gas chromatographs (GCs). Guided by experienced biochemists and veterinary specialists, the laboratories focus on bridging theoretical knowledge with practical applications, integrating real-world case studies

Electrophysiology Laboratory

MEDICAL SCHOOL & SCHOOL OF VETERINARY MEDICINE

The Experimental Electrophysiology Unit (EXELU) at UNIC Health leads advanced investigations into the functions of the nervous system, employing breakthrough technology to innovate treatments for neurological disorders. This laboratory supports various translational research initiatives and seeks to forge industry partnerships that propel pioneering neurological research, potentially impacting global health.

ANATOMY LABORATORY

SCHOOL OF VETERINARY MEDICINE

The Laboratory of Veterinary Anatomy provides students with opportunities for handling and examining domestic animals, and for learning dissection techniques utilising animal cadavers. This direct engagement with real-life anatomical structures enhances students’ understanding, sharpens their surgical skills, and prepares them for future challenges in veterinary practice. The laboratory is also equipped with the latest in anatomical visualisation technology, including the Anatomage system.
