Veterinary School contributes to EFSA public consultations

The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) is the European Union agency responsible for independent scientific advice on risks associated with the food chain. As part of its work, EFSA regularly organises public consultations, inviting scientists and stakeholders across Europe to provide comments on draft scientific opinions and guidance documents.

Dr Manos C. Vlasiou, Assistant Professor at the Veterinary School, has recently taken part in several of these public consultations. He contributed written input on topics including novel foods, zootechnical feed additives for poultry, renewal of authorisations for microbial feed additives, and the updated risk assessment of dioxins and dioxin-like PCBs in feed and food. These areas are closely connected with veterinary public health, animal nutrition, food safety and the One Health approach.

Participation in EFSA public consultations supports transparent and evidence-based risk assessment at European level. It also reflects the School’s ongoing academic engagement with EU regulatory science and its contribution to discussions on food and feed safety.

This activity is relevant to the School’s commitments in internationalisation, research-led teaching and societal impact, and highlights the role of academic staff in contributing expertise to European risk assessment frameworks.
