Manos Vlasiou

Dr Manos Vlasiou is the Head of the Department of Veterinary Medicine and Programme Coordinator at the School of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Nicosia.

Dr Manos Vlasiou has a Ph.D. (the University of Cyprus, Department of Chemistry) in Bioinorganic and Medicinal Inorganic Chemistry. His thesis incorporated the synthesis and characterization of metal-based drugs that cause apoptosis in cancer cells by disrupting the electron’s Krebs cycle in mitochondria. He is a member of the Royal Society of Chemistry and a certified chemist. In addition, he is a reviewer for several scientific journals and an editor for BMC Chemistry and Anticancer Agents in Medicinal Chemistry. During his Ph.D., he supervised five different undergraduate diploma theses and two master diploma theses. He had super user NMR responsibilities and participated in two research-funded programs.

Moreover, he teaches inorganic and organic chemistry lessons to undergraduate students. He continued his postdoctoral research at the same university by analyzing minor and significant food components using NMR techniques. Dr. Vlasiou has published his work in more than thirty articles and presented his findings at more than fifteen international conferences in poster and invited oral sessions. He taught medicinal chemistry and physical chemistry lessons at the University of Nicosia (Pharmacy program) as an Adjunct Lecturer, participated in six funded projects as an young researcher, research special scientist, and coordinator, and supervised several student Thesis. His research interests include medicinal inorganic chemistry, bioinorganic chemistry, biophysics, and computer-aided drug discovery. Currently, he is an Assistant Professor in Biochemistry at the VET School of the University of Nicosia.
