Abstract
After the end of the devastating Second World War, and the formation of the UN, the world experienced the long-lasting Cold War which virtually divided the world in two camps, despite the emergence of the Non Aligned Movement. After the end of the Cold War the accelerated pace ofglobalization essentially turned the world to a global village. The new global system was characterizedby the spread of satellite television and the internet, the beginning of Asia’s century and new development dynamics in Latin America and Africa. The beginning of the so-called “Arab Spring” was initially welcomed with optimism, but subsequently developments including the creation of the ISIS ledto the escalation of terrorism and further destabilization. Terrorism in Europe and North America, along with immigrant and refugee waves from Africa and the Middle East, increased islamophobia and enhanced protectionist ideas, both in the political and the economic realm. It seems that the world is unceasingly changing: is it turning its back to multilateralism? What will the future balance of power be like? And which will be the new position of the pendulum of power?
