International Society of Typographic Designers (ISTD) 2015 Student Assessment Scheme*

4th year GCom student, Ms Daryna Dombic, decided to raise awareness and break the taboo surrounding Alzheimer’s disease by designing a publication for Alzheimer’s caregivers.

She presented information about the disease using expressive typography and a case study of artist William Utermohlen (https://www.williamutermohlen.org/) who depicted his experience with the disease through a series of dramatic paintings.
According to the ISTD Assessment Committee, Daryna created a beautifully crafted book whose content and layout have been very well considered.

Daryna successfully passed the assessment and was invited to the ISTD Awards Ceremony that will take place in London.

For the third time since 2012, students of the “BA in Graphic Communication” programme at the University of Nicosia (UNic) participated in the “International Society of Typographic Designers (ISTD) Student Assessment Scheme".

Many thanks to Dr Solomou for his support, offering GCom students the opportunity to participate in this highly esteemed International Assessment Scheme.

UNic is the only higher education institution in Cyprus that participates in the scheme and, once again, its GCom students supervised by Dr Niki Sioki (Assistant Professor) and Ms Maria Stavride (Lecturer), were offered the opportunity to work on a rigorous brief, produce design work of high standards, and have that work judged by widely respected design experts.

ISTD is the only international authoritative body for typography promoting excellence in typographic design since 1928. Through the Society’s student assessment scheme, launched in 1975, students’ work is evaluated by practicing designers and typographic educators. The scheme is known as a model of academic thoroughness and professionalism.
