The University of Nicosia will host the European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID) Advanced Postgraduate Course on Antimicrobial Stewardship and Infection Prevention and Control (ESCMID AMS IPC course) from 21-23 November 2025 in Cyprus. This will mark the first time the event is held in Cyprus, with UNIC serving as the Host Coordinator.
The recently concluded course took place in Athens, from 29 November to 1 December 2024, organised by ESCMID. The course was co-coordinated by the University of Crete, the Hellenic Society of Infection Control, and Greece’s National Agency of Quality Assurance in Hospitals. Participants who completed the course received accredited certificates. With the involvement of the UNIC Medical School as one of the coordinators, Professor Zoi Dorothea Pana played a key role in the event.
In Athens, the course attracted 50 participants onsite and 70 participants online, drawing attendees from several European countries, the USA, and India. The event covered topics such as infection control, prevention, antimicrobial stewardship, and One Health within a global context. The programme included presentations by experts, including Professor Valter Fonseca from the WHO Office in Greece, and Daphne Kaitelidou from the National Agency of Quality Assurance in Hospitals.
With UNIC preparing to host next year’s session, the course aims to further efforts in antimicrobial stewardship, infection control, and prevention, featuring increased participation from local experts in Cyprus and the broader region.
