The University of Nicosia Medical School is pleased to announce its participation in the project “USMLE Step 1 Study 2020 (e-US1)” designed at John Hopkins University, USA, in December 2018, and implemented at the following medical schools: Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine, Rush Medical College, University of Illinois Chicago, and Vermont Medical College, during the calendar year 2019.

The project will be implemented in medical schools in Cyprus during the calendar years 2020-2021.  The project involves the completion of an anonymous online questionnaire, and aims to collect information on various factors related to preparation for the USMLE Step 1 examination, the first step required for obtaining licensure to practice medicine in the USA.  Factors to be investigated include the resources students use and find effective in preparing for the USMLE Step 1 examination, specific student behaviors and their possible predictability of USMLE Step 1 performance, and how dedicated preparation for the examination influences student well-being.  The ultimate objective of the project is to enable the drafting of a set of practical recommendations that will assist future medical students at succeeding in the USMLE Step 1 examination.

The University of Nicosia Medical School researchers involved in this study are: Prof. Photos Hajigeorgiou (Principal Investigator and USMLE Academic Lead), Dr Christiana Demetriou (Assistant Professor in Biostatistics & Epidemiology), Dr Panayiota Andreou (Assistant Professor of Psychology & Clinical Communication), Ms. Hafsa Omer Sulaiman (T Year MBBS student), and Mr. George Keliny (T Year MBBS student).
