Project Description
The project promotes European Union studies at the host institution through the introduction of a new 2nd cycle degree programme on European Public Law and Politics that will be jointly offered by the Department of Law and the Department of European Studies and International Relations of the University of Nicosia. In addition, the project provides academic added value through the promotion of interdisciplinarity in the study of EU policies. The proposal fosters the development of existing teaching activities by incorporating courses on EU institutions and processes of integration and governance from the existing curriculum of the host institution. New methodologies, tools and technologies will be utilized in the delivery of the joint degree described above in a flexible (blended-learning) format that will include both physical and virtual components.
The proposal will have a positive impact on the specific subject area of study at an international level through the organization of three annual academic conferences on each of the three thematic areas of the project: 1) higher education policies and reforms in the European Higher Education Area, 2) multidisciplinary approaches to developments in the geopolitics of the Eastern Mediterranean, and 3) the challenges presented to the EU by migration phenomena and policies. All of the events to be held at the host institution throughout the life of the project will also give greater visibility to this field of study at a national level. This goal will also be emphasized in the dissemination strategy of the project.
