Dr Christoforos Giannaki is a Professor in the Department of Life Sciences at the School of Life and Health Sciences, University of Nicosia, Cyprus. He is the associate head of the Department of Life Sciences, the PhD program coordinator in Exercise Science and Physical Education (since 2019) and the director of the Research Centre for Exercise and Nutrition (RECEN). He holds a BSc degree in Physical Education and Sports Science from the University of Thessaly (Greece), an MSc degree in Sports Physiology from Liverpool John Moores University (United Kingdom), and a PhD from the School of Medicine at the University of Thessaly (Greece).
His main research interests focus on the effects of exercise on health-related parameters such as physical fitness, sleep, cognitive function, and quality of life in healthy individuals of all ages, as well as in people with chronic diseases (e.g., chronic kidney disease, multiple sclerosis, and obesity).
He has published more than 110 articles indexed in PubMed/Scopus, including papers in high-impact journals covering Medicine, Sports and Exercise Science, Sleep Medicine, Nutrition, and Human Physiology. He has served as a coordinator or research group member on several EU and locally funded projects (i.e. Horizon, COST actions, Erasmus).
He is a member of several international health and medical organizations, and a fellow of the European College of Sports Science. He also serves as the president of Exercise Is Medicine Cyprus. Additionally, Prof. Giannaki is an editorial board member of BMC Nephrology, European Review of Aging and Physical Activity, Nutrients and Frontiers in Striated Muscle Physiology.
