Οn behalf of the Human Biology Society of the University of Nicosia
You are invited to a talk by Ms. Lauren Satterfield, a visiting US Fulbright Scholar hosted by the Cyprus Center for International and European Affairs (CCEIA) of the University of Nicosia .
Lauren Satterfield, a caver and wildlife biologist from the USA, will begin this talk with a general background on the formation of caves, the resulting types of environments than can be found underground, how fauna have adapted to exist in these unique and delicate systems, and the methods humans use to descend into the earth.
Then the lecture will turn its focus to Cyprus, and current research that is underway to explore, document, and study the island's subterranean ecosystems. This segment will cover knowledge about caves on the island, the project's goals and findings to date (including photographs of Cyprus' cave biology and geology), and questions that still remain unanswered. Anyone interested in geology, biology, or history are encouraged to attend.
