Career Prospects
Graduate Employment Prospects
The undergraduate Law program at UNIC is designed to follow international guidelines in the field of legal science. Graduates of the Law Program will be fully prepared to obtain a license to practice as a Lawyer, Notary, Bailiff in Greece and to enter postgraduate programs. Our program provides a solid theoretical foundation for students to succeed in postgraduate studies pursuing specialized master’s or doctoral programs. Our graduates can also continue postgraduate studies, as is often the case, in other fields, such as International Relations, Business Administration.
In addition to practicing professions that require obtaining a Law degree in Greece or continuing their studies at a law school, graduates will be able to pursue other careers such as:
Possibility of working in International Organizations, EU institutions, but also in NGOs that deal with subjects that require good knowledge of fields of legal science, such as NGOs that have as their object of action the management of migratory flows.
Access to Further Studies
Graduates of the programme can be accepted into Second Cycle degrees (Master’s Degree)
The minimum admission requirement for an Undergraduate (1st Cycle/Bachelor’s) Degree is a recognised High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) or equivalent internationally recognized qualifications.
Students with a lower than 7.5/10 or 15/20 or equivalent, HSLC grade depending on the grading system of the country issuing the HSLC, are provided with extra academic guidance and monitoring during the first year of their studies.
Furthermore, applicants eligible for admission to undergraduate programmes under the Greek legal framework, which establishes minimum admission criteria, include:
a) Greek or foreign nationals holding a General High School Diploma (ΓΕ.Λ.) or a Vocational High School Diploma (ΕΠΑ.Λ.) with an average grade in the four (4) nationwide examination subjects equal to or greater than the minimum admission threshold. This threshold is determined by multiplying the lowest average grade among all examinees within a given scientific field by a coefficient of 0.8 in the year of participation.
b) Holders of equivalent secondary education diplomas from recognized foreign schools in Greece (level 4 of the National Qualifications Framework).
c) Holders of international secondary education diplomas issued by schools in Greece or abroad, foreign nationals with an equivalent high school diploma, or an equivalent vocational education qualification granting them the right to access higher education institutions in the country where they studied.
d) For graduates mentioned in point (a) before the academic year 2021-2022, as well as holders of a first-cycle degree, the terms and conditions for selection and admission are set by the parent institution (University of Nicosia) as outlined in the first paragraph of section 1.2.
Proficiency in Greek Language
A prerequisite for the enrollment of students in programmes of study offered in the Greek language is a good knowledge of Greek. This can be demonstrated by a B2 level certificate from the Center for the Teaching of Greek as a Foreign Language, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, B2 Proficiency Certificate from the School of Modern Greek Language, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, or B2 Level Certificate from the Center for the Greek Language (Ministry of Education, Greece).
This certificate is not required if:
1) if the student holds a secondary education diploma from a Greek or Cypriot school,
2) or if the student holds a secondary education diploma from a foreign school from which it is evident that the student has successfully studied and been examined in the Greek language.
Course assessment usually comprises of a comprehensive final exam and continuous assessment. Continuous assessment can include amongst others, mid-terms, projects and class participation.
Letter grades are calculated based on the weight of the final exam and the continuous assessment and the actual numerical marks obtained in these two assessment components. Based on the course grades the student’s semester grade point average (GPA) and cumulative point average (CPA) are calculated
The student must complete 240 ECTS and all programme requirements.
A minimum cumulative grade point average (CPA) of 2.0 is required. Thus, although a ‘D-‘ is a PASS grade, in order to achieve a CPA of 2.0 an average grade of ‘C’ is required.
The programme aims to achieve learning outcomes that will enable graduates to manage their knowledge to address real-world problems and challenges in their work environment. The primary goal of structuring the learning outcomes is to critically establish knowledge and skills and utilize them in a practical and directly applicable manner. Upon completion of the programme, students are expected, among other things, to be able to:
- Recognize, evaluate, and provide examples for basic legal concepts, institutions, and aspects of the law, as well as specialized fields of legal science.
- Identify legally significant facts and applicable legal rules in the practical aspects of everyday life.
- Develop well-structured legal arguments and judgments, identifying gaps or errors in the legal argumentation of others.
