Counselling
We understand the challenges that come with academic life and the entire university experience, which is why we have made it our purpose to help our students face these challenges head on as they arise.
Counselling and Wellbeing Services
UNIC Athens recognises the importance of addressing students’ personal and psychological challenges. For this reason, counselling and wellbeing services are offered to support students’ academic progress and personal development. The Student Affairs Department organises numerous events and activities throughout the year, open to both students and the general public. These include: orientation programmes, graduation ceremonies, festivals, recreational and cultural excursions, charitable activities, nature activities, themed events, educational trips, evening outings, learning activities, and other student gatherings. Through these activities, a sense of community among students is enhanced, creating an inclusive, dynamic environment.
ARISTON CAREERS TEST
One of the most indicative psychometric tools for vocational counselling, the Ariston Test is able to identify the type of career that most suits your intrinsic character. The results of the Ariston Test can also assess whether your personality matches up with the requirements of a particular work environment or specialisation.
Additional Student Support in the Medical School
Beyond the above services, Medical School students have access to additional support services, summarised below.
Personal Tutor / Personal Tutor Scheme
Each student is assigned a Personal Tutor (PT) for the duration of their programme. The PT has been trained to provide support and monitor the student’s academic progress, advising them in case of problems affecting their studies. Students are encouraged to meet their PT from the beginning of the programme and discuss any academic or personal issues that may affect their performance.
The PT is usually the first point of contact for academic support. In some cases, the PT may provide direct support and guidance. In others, they will indicate where the student can receive help (e.g., from the Student Services Centre, Academic Registry, Student Health Services, a General Practitioner, or Counselling Services).
In the clinical years of Medical programmes (MD), students are assigned a second Personal Tutor, who is located in the specific clinical facility where clinical placements take place. Because this second PT is a clinical physician in the same location, they can provide more targeted guidance and advice directly related to the student’s clinical education.
Student Health Services
Medical School students have access to a Student Health Services physician. In Medical programmes (MD), students must complete a health clearance check and be deemed ‘fit to study and practise’ by Student Health Services before enrolling in the programme. The check is conducted before studies commence and continues throughout the duration of study.
- Health services are coordinated by the Student Health Services physician and the Student Health Services and Disabilities Officer
- They provide information on general health issues, required vaccinations, etc.
- They address any health issues that may arise during studies or clinical practice through appropriate referrals.
- They are also responsible for supporting students with disabilities, assessing their needs and ensuring appropriate reasonable adjustments are implemented during their studies.
