The Geomechanics and Drilling Fluids Laboratory supports a broad range of instructional and research experiments. The laboratory is divided into three sections, namely:
- Soil Mechanics
- Rock Mechanics and Petrophysics
- Drilling Fluids Characterization
The Soil Mechanics section
It contains all the necessary equipment for standard soil testing such as specific gravity, grain size distribution, liquid limit, plastic limit, density, shear strength parameters of soils, Proctor test, Consolidation and Permeability tests. The laboratory can be used for demonstrations, and for basic and applied research. This area also houses a collection of specimens used for the geology course.
