Research shows that participation in the metaverse is shaped by design decisions, governance models, and organizational practices. In particular, avatar systems influence how users express identity, but representation is limited by what platforms technically and culturally allow.
Drawing on recent literature on diversity and inclusion in the metaverse (stemming from the work done for the NEOLAiA project), Damvakeraki stressed that this transition will only be beneficial if equity, representation and accessibility are embedded from the outset.
In addition to workshops and panel discussions, participants will have the opportunity to engage in cultural and networking activities across Nicosia.

As part of this task, a roadmap was prepared to summarise key themes, trends, and gaps in how diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) are currently addressed in the Metaverse, based on desk research carried out between 2020 and 2024.

Η εκδήλωση ξεκίνησε με χαιρετισμούς από τον Καθηγητή Παναγιώτη Αγγελίδη, Διευθυντή της Έδρας UNESCO στο Πανεπιστήμιο Λευκωσίας, την Καθηγήτρια Έλενα Παπαναστασίου, Κοσμήτορα της Σχολής Επιστημών Αγωγής, και την Αναπληρώτρια Καθηγήτρια Μαρίνα Ροδοσθένους-Μπαλάφα, Πρόεδρο του Τμήματος Παιδαγωγικών Σπουδών.
Κατά τη διάρκεια της συνάντησης, οι συμμετέχοντες συμμετείχαν σε εργαστήρια και συζήτησαν για δραστηριότητες που σχετίζονται για τη βελτίωση της διδασκαλίας και της μάθησης εντός της συμμαχίας.

A delegation of four individuals from the University of Nicosia attended a series of seminars that took place between 26 and 28 November 2024, hosted by the University of Tours, in France.
