Prof Polizopoulou appointed Interim Dean

From 1 July, Professor Zoe G. Polizopoulou serves as Interim Dean of the School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Nicosia. A graduate of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (DVM 1986; PhD 1991), she joined its Department of Clinical Sciences in 1999, was promoted to professor in 2015 and later directed the Diagnostic Laboratory. Her research centres on veterinary clinical pathology, with particular interests in biochemical markers of cardiac and renal disease, neuro-degenerative disorders in companion animals and trace-element imbalances in farm species; she has authored more than 130 peer-reviewed publications.

Professor Polizopoulou is a Charter Diplomate and former President of the European College of Veterinary Clinical Pathology. At European level she serves as Senior Vice-President of the European Board of Veterinary Specialisation (EBVS) and as the EBVS representative on the Executive Board of Veterinary Continuous Education in Europe (VetCEE). She is also a member of the FECAVA Council and Vice-President of the Hellenic Veterinary Medical Society.

We are grateful to Professor Michael Herrtage for the expertise, experience, and leadership he brought to the School during his service as Programme and Department Head and later as Dean. His support and guidance were invaluable in launching the Veterinary Medicine programme and laying the foundations for Cyprus’s first School of Veterinary Medicine.
