The University of Nicosia (UNIC) is pleased to announce that its Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) programme has been officially listed in the European Union Directive for the mutual recognition of professional qualifications (2005/36/EC).

This significant development confirms that the UNIC DVM degree meets the standards set by the EU for professional recognition, offering graduates enhanced opportunities across Europe. This recognition extends to all nationals of these regions, subject to local language or specific country requirements and ensures that graduates from the University of Nicosia are now eligible to apply for registration as veterinary surgeons in any EU, EEA/EFTA country, or Switzerland, providing graduates with a streamlined path to professional practice across multiple countries within Europe and beyond.

The EU Directive (2005/36/EC) plays a crucial role in fostering cross-border recognition of professional qualifications, enhancing mobility within the European workforce. It facilitates professionals’ access to labour markets across different Member States and reduces administrative barriers, enabling the seamless provision of services across borders. For the veterinary profession, the Directive introduces an automatic recognition system for qualifications that meet harmonised EU-wide standards, ensuring that veterinary surgeons trained in Cyprus can practice in a wide array of European countries without additional qualification hurdles. In addition, the Directive provides flexibility for veterinary surgeons seeking either temporary or permanent professional mobility.
