University of Nicosia Department of Engineering and Cyfield Group Partner to Bridge the Gap Between Academic Theory and Industry Practice

The Department of Engineering at the University of Nicosia hosted a seminar titled “Industry Insights: Operations and Career Pathways”, in collaboration with Cyfield Group, a key player in the construction industry in Cyprus, Greece, and Egypt. The event provided engineering students with a direct link to one of the region’s most prominent industrial leaders.

The seminar served as a platform for company representatives to share real-world expertise and career opportunities within Cyfield Group, which currently employs over 850 professionals, including more than 80 technical professionals and engineers. The session focused on bridging the gap between academic theory and practical realities, a core objective for the University of Nicosia and the Department of Engineering as it prepares its graduates for a rapidly evolving global market.

Students from the Civil and Environmental, Mechanical, and Electrical Engineering programs engaged in specialized discussions covering a wide array of modern industrial sectors.

“Seminars like this, by industry leaders, allow our students to witness first-hand how their studies translate into the large infrastructure and energy projects that define our landscape,” said Dr Stelios Neophytou, Head of the Department of Engineering. “Our goal is to ensure that graduate students of the University of Nicosia are not just academically proficient, but industry-ready from day one.”

Cyfield Group, established in 1990, highlighted its role as a Class A contractor (the highest grade of contractor license in Cyprus) and its expansion into pioneering energy projects, including the first private electric power plant in Cyprus. Representatives emphasized the company’s mission to create projects that “benefit individuals and corporations and define the way forward.”

This event is part of a broader initiative by the University of Nicosia to align its academic programmes with emerging technologies and specific industry needs.
