The editor and authors, from a range of international backgrounds, have decades of hands-on experience in managing high risk labour wards and promoting both multidisciplinary working and high-quality training. The well-illustrated book is an essential read for practicing obstetricians, trainees, midwives, neonatologists, anaesthetists and obstetric physicians.

‘The pregnancy lasts for nine months, and in most cases, the final event of labour and delivery usually happens within a 24-hour period. This short journey is the most perilous the human ever undertakes in terms of risk to life and health for both mother and baby’, said Prof Sir Sabaratnam Arulkumaran. To make childbirth safe and of high quality, globally thousands of midwives and doctors learn and practise the art and science of safe labour and delivery. This book provides comprehensive information to practitioners to deliver the best care for the mother, foetus, and newborn’.

Professor Arri Coomarasamy from the University of Oxford praised the work, stating: ‘Sound knowledge about labour and delivery is at the core of effective care. The book provides clear information, guidance and instructions, all based on sound evidence and current consensus. Make time for this book; it will help you, your team, mothers and babies’.
