Training seminar for sustainable pig farming in Cyprus | First milk and suckling piglets
The School of Veterinary Medicine, in collaboration with UNIPORK Cyprus Ltd, has continued its successful series of training seminars designed to advance the expertise of pig producers in Cyprus. The latest seminar, held on 29 May 2025, focused on First Milk and Suckling Piglets, addressing critical challenges, such as diseases linked to poor-quality colostrum and factors affecting colostrum intake in piglets from high-yield sows.
The event featured expert presentations, including Dr Georgios Nikolaou, Clinical Assistant Professor at the UNIC School of Veterinary Medicine, who discussed piglet diseases related to inadequate colostrum, and Dr Ioannis Arsenakis, Assistant Professor at the Agricultural University of Athens, who analysed factors influencing colostrum absorption in piglets. An open discussion followed.
The School of Veterinary Medicine and UNIPORK remain dedicated to improving pig farming practices in Cyprus, focusing on animal health and pork quality.
