The story of human civilization in just under two hours – lecture on campus by well-known Greek professor and historian, Dr Maria Efthymiou

In just under two hours, Dr Maria Efthymiou, author and professor in the Department of History and Archaeology at the University of Athens, outlined the most important aspects of human history in an exciting lecture at UNIC. In her lecture on “Historical Routes and Self-Knowledge”, Dr Efthimiou commented on her broader approach, which touches upon epochs and events, individuals and societies, intentions and aims, controversies and affirmations. Dr Efthymiou has been teaching History for 25 years, while also travelling through Greece for the past 12 years, speaking voluntarily and free of charge about the major events that have marked our planet. “I believe in history. It helps us get to know ourselves”, remarked Dr Efthymiou, adding that human history has many phases, and “memory is what makes us human”. The event was organised jointly by the UNESCO Chair and the Department of Educational Sciences at UNIC.
