Six feet may not be enough to stop the coronavirus from spreading
Since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, we have all been told to distance ourselves socially by standing or sitting six feet (or two meters) from strangers. But new research suggests the distance may not be far enough to prevent transmission of the virus, even in light winds. Researchers have found that even in winds of two miles per hour (mph) – the speed required for smoke to drift through the air – saliva can travel 18 feet in just five seconds.
The team, from the University of Nicosia in Cyprus, said the results show that the safe distance guidelines do little to prevent us from catching COVID-19, the deadly disease caused by the virus…
