Mobile clinic supports anti-cancer society xmas fiesta with IPL activity
The Mobile Clinic took part in the Anti-Cancer Society’s annual Christmas fiesta on Saturday, 6 December 2025 – an event dedicated to raising funds in support of the organisation’s work.
As in previous years, this expedition was an Inter-Professional Learning (IPL) activity, bringing together medical and nursing students to provide blood pressure and glucose screenings to visitors of the fiesta. The event took place at the headquarters of the Electricity Authority of Cyprus in Nicosia.
A team of 31 student volunteers carried out approximately 120 screenings under the supervision of Clinical Associate Professor Danagra Ikossi from the Medical School, as well as the Leader of the Nursing Simulation Lab Fanis Stavrou and Lecturer Evangelos Latzourakis from the School of Life and Health Sciences.

‘The Mobile Clinic expeditions are a great opportunity to consolidate practical skills like measuring blood pressure and glucose and provide a bridge to use the knowledge taught in class and to apply it in a real-world situation. I thoroughly enjoyed the concept of mixed participation of both medical and nursing students as this helped emphasise the importance of different members of the multidisciplinary team. I would strongly recommend all students to go on at least one expedition during the course of their studies’.
Pascha Schmidt-Hulsmann,
MD Y4

‘I personally had an amazing experience with the medical students. Working together and sharing ideas shows how important it is for the health professionals to collaborate. Aside from the learning benefits it was an opportunity to socialise and make new connections outside of my usual circle. I encourage everyone who has not volunteered for this event to try to. It’s an opportunity for one to serve and to educate the community about health care. Also an opportunity to shine light on the University of Nicosia’.

‘Taking part in the mobile clinic expedition was one of those moments that reminds you why you chose medicine. Throughout the day we offered free blood pressure and blood glucose checks to those who came to the Christmas market. For us as students, it was a valuable hands-on learning experience, but more importantly, it was a chance to contribute something practical to the community’.
Anna Makarova,
MD Y4

‘Participating in the IPL activity for the Christmas fiesta was a great hands-on experience. Doing manual blood pressure and blood sugar checks with Medical School students showed me how teamwork and good communication make clinical tasks smoother. It also felt meaningful to give back to the community in a simple but impactful way. I’d encourage others to join future IPL events because they’re a supportive way to build collaboration and serve the community together’.
