English-Cypriot Legal Conference “Common Law in Europe”: Examining the Latest Developments in Common Law in Europe
The Bar Council’s International Committee, in collaboration with the Cyprus Bar Association, successfully organised the English-Cypriot Legal Conference “Common Law in Europe”, held in Limassol, Cyprus, on June 14th. The Procedural Law Unit proudly sponsored this insightful event, which emphasised the significance of Common Law within Europe as a foundational component of the legal systems in several European countries, including the UK and Cyprus.
The conference explored a range of critical topics, including the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) in the Common Law world, Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) in Common Law systems, Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) in civil litigation, and legal privilege and sanctions.
Esteemed speakers from Cyprus and abroad delivered stimulating presentations on the latest developments in the Common Law of England and Wales, highlighting the vital connection between England, Cyprus, and other common law jurisdictions globally. Our co-director, Dr Nicolas Kyriakides, notably contributed by presenting on the impact of Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) on private law disputes from the perspective of Cyprus, as part of the Panel which focused on SARs in Civil Litigation
This conference provided an excellent opportunity for legal practitioners to engage with the latest developments in the field, fostering collaboration between England and Cyprus and enhancing Cyprus’ international competitiveness.
