The Global University Ranking System also acknowledged UNIC in the clusters of  Regional Engagement, Research, Teaching/Learning and Knowledge Transfer

The University of Nicosia (UNIC) received the highest possible score for its International Orientation in this year’s sixth annual release of data by U-Multirank (www.umultirank.org),an important global university ranking system. Published this past Tuesday, 4 June, U-Multirank ranked 1,711 universities from 96 countries, including over 5,153 faculties and more than 12,500 study programmes.

The Internationalisation cluster in which UNIC excelled takes into account key indicators such as foreign language Bachelor and Master programmes; student mobility; international academic staff; international doctorate degrees; and international joint publications. Additionally, the University performed exceptionally well in the area of Regional Engagement, receiving the highest possible score for regional publications with industrial partners, as well as in the area of Research, receiving the highest possible score for art-related outputs. Moreover, the University continued to be acknowledged in the critical areas of Teaching and Learning, as well as Knowledge Transfer.

The data included in U-Multirank are drawn from a number of sources, providing users with a comprehensive set of information: data supplied by institutions; international bibliometric and patent databases; national databases; as well as surveys of more than 100,000 students at participating universities. Moreover, the transparent approach of U-Multirank allows students, universities, businesses, policy-makers and governments to make better-informed comparisons of how universities perform worldwide.

“Since first participating in this global university ranking system, in 2016, our University has consistently performed exceptionally well in the U-Multirank annual assessments”, noted the Rector of the University of Nicosia, Professor Philippos Pouyioutas. “This year’s results highlight in particular our focus on internationalisation and our achievements in that domain. More broadly, these yearly assessments are a testament to our commitment to the core functions and pillars underpinning a modern, comprehensive university”, concluded the Rector.

U-Multirank originated at a conference of the European Commission in 2008 and published its first ranking in 2014. Since 2017, it has been funded by the Bertelsmann Foundation, the European Union’s Erasmus+ Programme, and Santander Group.
