Mobile clinic brings ECGs to remote Paphos village

The Medical School’s Mobile Clinic visited the Paphos village of Pano Arodes on Sunday, 1 February 2026, where 15 students provided electrocardiograms (ECGs), as well as blood pressure and BMI screenings, to 30 local residents.

Under the guidance of Professor Joseph Moutiris, the students had an opportunity to give back to the community while further developing their ECG interpretation skills in a real-world setting. The visit was particularly meaningful for a community with an ageing population, where access to regular preventive health screenings can be limited.

The Vice-Mayor of the community, Mattheos Stefanou, warmly welcomed UNIC staff and students to the village and, following the tests, hosted a visit to the Akamas Geology and Paleontology Information Centre and the Museum of Templar Ages. The students learned about the area’s geological characteristics and the history of the medieval Knights Templar, and even had the chance to try on historical armour and take part in friendly mock duels.

The Vice-Mayor later treated the team to lunch at a local taverna, offering a generous taste of local hospitality.

‘I’m really grateful I got to be part of the Mobile Clinic. Helping people who don’t always have easy access to healthcare felt truly meaningful. Meeting patients in their own community reminded me why I chose medicine in the first place. Even the small things we did seemed to matter, and that feeling was incredibly rewarding. I really encourage other students to join in the future; it’s such a special and heartwarming experience’.
