Webinar 1: Looking for the mentor

Young researchers are strongly encouraged to seek out experienced mentors in their research field. The guidance and knowledge they can gain from these mentors can significantly enhance their research skills and career prospects.

This presentation is dedicated to addressing practical questions on how young researchers, supervisors, and institutions can collaborate professionally to promote sound science and contribute constructively to society. Universities must play an active role in fostering effective supervisors and mentors, as they can significantly influence the quality of research and the development of young researchers.

In today’s fast-paced and complex scientific landscape, experienced researchers need to take the time to explain their decisions and actions. This not only helps young researchers understand the reasoning behind these actions but also ensures they receive the best advice from their supervisors.  We all know that investing in the future is the best way to make the world a better place.

Thanks to his scientific prestige, Panagiotis Karanis has not only advanced his own research but also played a pivotal role in stimulating the research interests of the governments of Germany, Japan, and China. His work has focused on parasitic diseases closely linked to the environment, contamination of drinking water, and the food chain, as well as those transmitted by vectors. His leadership in this area has inspired significant research and action in these countries.
Recently, Panagiotis Karanis was honoured with the Green Brand Award for his research in environmental health, particularly in the prevention and treatment of parasitic infections.
