War in the Middle East: Regional Security and Strategy Perspectives

The Department of Politics and Governance of the University of Nicosia successfully hosted the webinar titled “War in the Middle East: Regional Security and Strategy Perspectives” on Thursday, 2 April 2026. The event was organised by the MA in International Relations and Eastern Mediterranean Studies, E-Learning/Distance Learning (Online) programme.

Bringing together a diverse online audience, the session focused on the implications of the latest escalation in the Middle East and its broader impact on regional security dynamics. The speakers examined how immediate tactical decisions may shape long-term strategic challenges and regional stability, and addressed how the ongoing conflict intersects with the evolving security framework of the Eastern Mediterranean.

The webinar featured presentations by distinguished academics of the Department of Politics and Governance of the University of Nicosia, Dr Constantinos Adamides (Associate Professor and Head of Department) and Dr Giorgos Kentas (Associate Professor). The session was moderated by Dr Michalis Kontos, Associate Professor of the Department of Politics and Governance and Programme Coordinator of the MA in International Relations and Eastern Mediterranean Studies.

A discussion followed the presentations, giving participants the opportunity to exchange views on the emerging risks facing states in the Eastern Mediterranean and the strategic implications of the Middle East conflict.
