
Dr Nikolaos Antonakakis
Prof. Dr Nikolaos Antonakakis is Professor of Economics and a leading scholar in applied macroeconomics, international finance, and political economy. He holds a PhD and MSc from the University of Strathclyde (UK), a BSc from Athens University of Economics and Business (Greece), and has previously served as Professor and Head of the Department of Business & Management at Webster Vienna Private University. His research spans applied time-series econometrics, as well as European integration, health, energy, and tourism economics. His publications have appeared in high-impact international journals such as Social Science & Medicine, Energy Economics, Annals of Tourism Research, Technological Forecasting and Social Change, Economics Letters, and International Review of Financial Analysis. Prof. Antonakakis has been recognized among the World’s Top 2% Scientists in Economics and among the 10 best Economists in Greece (Stanford University and Elsevier, 2020–2024). He is a recipient of multiple Excellence in Teaching and Best Journal Article Publication awards and serves as editorial board member or guest editor in several peer-reviewed journals. His research offers strong implications for evidence-based policy design, bridging rigorous econometric analysis with real-world economic challenges in areas such as fiscal policy, wellbeing, and sustainable development.
