Global Distinction for UNIC Faculty at the BMA Medical Book Awards 2018

“Social Research in Health and Illness”, a book co-authored by Constantinos N. Phellas and Costas K. Constantinou, voted among the top books of 2018

Social Research in Health and Illness (Routledge, 2017), a new book co-authored by Professor Constantinos N. Phellas, UNIC’s Vice Rector for Faculty and Research, and Dr. Costas K. Konstantinou, Associate Professor and Associate Dean for Students at the UNIC Medical School, was voted among the top books in the world, in the respective Health and Social Care category at this year’s BMA Medical Book Awards.

More than 250 selected leading authors and publishers from across the globe attended the BMA Awards ceremony, recently held in London. The BMA represents doctors and students in the medical profession throughout the United Kingdom and is responsible for shaping the country’s policy with recommendations pertaining to the UK’s world-renowned healthcare sector.

The distinction is noteworthy as part of the University’s groundbreaking activity in medical education. In 2011, the University of Nicosia, in cooperation with St George’s, University of London, established the first and largest Medical School in Cyprus, which now boasts 650+ students from over 60 countries.

“The BMA Medical Book Awards 2018, at which the University of Nicosia was also honoured, provided the opportunity to highlight the importance of related medical science publications, with an emphasis on the importance given to medical learning and practice”, said Professor Phellas, who was also the recipient of the honorary BMA distinction on behalf of UNIC.
