Profile of the Programme

The MA in Teaching Greek to Speakers of Other Languages aims to prepare students to the area of teaching Greek as a second/foreign language, equipping them with a solid theoretical and pedagogical foundation. It is designed both for novice teachers (with little or no teaching experience), and for experienced teachers who wish to gain a substantial postgraduate qualification in this field.

Career Prospects

After completion of the programme, students can pursue careers in any of the following professions:

  • Language teachers
  • Teacher trainers
  • Educational material writers
  • Course and curriculum developers
  • Researchers

Access to Further Studies

Graduates of the programme can be accepted into Third Cycle degrees (Doctoral Degree)

Admission Criteria

The minimum general requirement for admission to the post-graduate degree programme is a Bachelor Degree from a recognised university.

In addition to the above, applicants must also satisfy the following requirements:

  • Be holders of a BA degree or equivalent from a philosophical school (Greek or foreign philology) or pedagogical departments of recognized universities in Greece or abroad. Holders of other degrees can be admitted if they have two years of experience in teaching Greek as a second/foreign language.

Greek Language Proficiency

Graduates from non-Greek-speaking universities or programmes must hold a Greek Language Certification of at least level B2 from the Centre for the Greek Language.

Assessment

Course assessment usually comprises a comprehensive final examination and continuous assessment. Continuous assessment may include, among others activities, weekly interactive tasks, projects, and active participation in online forums.

Letter grades are calculated according to the weight of the final examination and continuous assessment, as well as the actual numerical marks obtained in these components. Based on the course grades, the student’s semester Grade Point Average (GPA) and Cumulative Point Average (CPA) are calculated.

Graduation

The student must complete 90 ECTS and all programme requirements.

A minimum CPA of 2.0 is required. Thus, although a ‘D-‘ is a PASS grade, in order to achieve a CPA of 2.0 an average grade of ‘C’ is required.
