Scholarship Competition for the Distance Learning MA in TESOL
The MA TESOL Distance Learning Programme at the University of Nicosia, Department of Languages and Literature, invites prospective students to participate in the Future Language Educators Scholarship Competition.
Identify one challenge language teachers face in your educational context and propose a realistic solution that could be implemented in your school or community.
Submission Requirements
This competition is open to applicants to the MA TESOL Distance Learning programme. Applicants should submit a programme application via TESOL – Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (MA, 3 Semesters) – E-Learning/Distance Learning (Online) – University of Nicosia before (or alongside) entering the competition.
- Video Reflection
Submit a video reflection in English addressing the above prompt and demonstrating:
- Clear communication
- Originality of thought
- Practical insight
- Personal reflection
- Engagement with current issues in language education
Applicants are encouraged to speak naturally and authentically rather than deliver an overly scripted presentation.
Video Specifications
- Duration: 4-5 minutes
- Format: MP4, MOV, or AVI
- Recording device: Phone, tablet, or computer
- Orientation: Landscape preferred

- Curriculum Vitae (CV)
Submit an up-to-date CV outlining academic background, teaching experience (if applicable), qualifications, relevant skills, and achievements.
- Two Reference Letters
Provide two academic or professional reference letters commenting on the applicant’s academic potential, professional suitability, and motivation for postgraduate study.
- Personal Statement
Submit a short statement explaining:
- Why you wish to pursue the MA TESOL Distance Learning programme
- How the programme aligns with your academic and professional goals
- Your interest in language teaching and learning
- Your future aspirations
Scholarship Categories
Scholarships will be awarded in separate categories based on applicant status:
- International Students: 3 scholarships of 50%, 55% and 60% tuition scholarships
- EU Students: 3 scholarships of 30%, 35%, and 40% tuition scholarships
Evaluation Criteria
- Clarity and coherence of ideas
- Critical and reflective engagement with the topic
- Awareness of current issues in language education
- Originality of perspective
- Motivation and potential for postgraduate study
- Ability to support ideas with relevant examples
- Academic background and previous academic performance

- The programme application is separate and should be completed online via TESOL – Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (MA, 3 Semesters) – E-Learning/Distance Learning (Online) – University of Nicosia
- Scholarship entries must be submitted by email to [email protected] and should include the video reflection, CV, two reference letters, and personal statement
- Only original work will be accepted; submissions will be checked for AI use
- The scholarship covers tuition fees only and excludes books, application fee, and other expenses or fees.
