Scholarship in Memory of Evangelos Spanos by the BIOIATRIKI Group
The scholarship is specifically for certain postgraduate programmes within the Department of Life Sciences at the UNIC School of Life and Health Sciences
The BIOIATRIKI Group annually offers one full scholarship for postgraduate studies at the School of Life and Health Sciences, University of Nicosia, in memory of its founder, Evangelos Spanos. The scholarship is exclusively for the postgraduate programmes in Clinical Dietetics and Biomedical Sciences.
The Evangelos Spanos Memorial Scholarships were established in 2022 and named in honour of Evangelos Spanos, the charismatic entrepreneur, doctor, and scientist who founded the BIOIATRIKI Group.
The first scholarship was awarded to a student of the Master’s Programme in Clinical Dietetics at the University of Nicosia in October 2023 and has a duration of two years (until June 2025).
Applications for the new scholarship, which will cover the academic year 2024-2025, can be submitted until 25 September 2024. The results will be announced one week after the deadline.

Selection Criteria:
- Academic Performance: Bachelor‘s degree grade (CPA ≥3.0/4.0, ≥7.5/10 for Greek Universities, or ≥70% + First-Class Honors for UK Universities), postgraduate studies, research thesis, publications, professional experience, awards, scholarships, distinctions, participation in the Erasmus programme.
- Enrolment in an MSc Programme: Candidates must be accepted and enrolled in one of the following postgraduate programmes (MSc) at the University of Nicosia: Biomedical Sciences or Clinical Dietetics.
- Financial Criteria: In case two or more applicants have received equal scores in the scholarship assessment, family income and other financial obligations of each candidate will be considered.
- Research Experience: In case two or more applicants have received equal scores in the scholarship assessment, priority will be given to candidates with proven research experience.
Note: While financial need and research experience are not the primary selection criteria, they may be considered in the event that multiple candidates have similar academic qualifications. All candidates meeting the basic criteria will be evaluated based primarily on academic merit.
Scholarship Terms:
- The applicants must provide a personal statement of max. 500 words (including career goals, Vision of their future specializing in their fields, and anything they consider relevant).
- Financial needs may be considered a tiebreaker between applicants with the same GPA. If two or more applicants have the same academic qualifications, the scholarship committee may consider financial need a secondary criterion for awarding the scholarship. Financial needs could be assessed based on family income, student loans, or other financial obligations. Students need to provide evidence of financial need, such as an income statement.
- Scholarships are valid for the duration of studies and subject to a successful academic performance review at the end of each semester.
- If two (2) or more scholarships are secured, the scholarship/financial aid with the highest tuition reduction percentage will apply.
